Over the last month, Nia has become steady on her feet. She takes many steps on her own now, and is working on standing up without holding on to anything.
She has also been working on self-feeding. We started with the surf-board shaped mum mums, since they were easy to hold. The dissolving baby puffs and yogurt drops she liked, but most ended up on the floor as she had not mastered the pincer grasp yet. She was still raking and shoving things in her mouth from her palm - quite frustrating for her. I tried giving avocado and banana pieces, which she would eat but not touch. At the end of the 10th month she is almost able to grab with thumb and forefinger - she managed to eat a bunch of mini penne pasta yesterday and loved it. She'll be sharing our dinners in no time - probably more interested in that than Ian!
Sleep has been all over the place. We had a false start with sleeping through the night (from 11pm-5/6am). At exactly 10 months she is getting back on track. Less crying (sometimes) going down to sleep and longer uninterrupted sleep cycles. Last night she slept through the pre-midnight feeding time, but woke starving at 4am. After a tiny milk snack and a diaper change, she slept until 6am. The longer sleep intervals are such a tease - we are enjoying it, but exhausted - it's just a drop in our sleep deprivation bucket!
The first week of October, we were getting less sleep. We spent a few days at the log house. Walking was getting more controlled. Nia was up several times a night in a bad mood.
October 8th: The teeth popped through!
The following week, she got the sniffles really bad. NO SLEEP for a couple days - well I got no sleep - I let her sleep upright on me sitting in bed. And there were noises in the walls in the log house that woke her and I every time we found sleep. The next night at home in LI was not much better. She only slept a little in the evening, and no sleep for us. The 3rd night was a bit better.
October 13th: Nia slept 10.5 hours straight! 6:30-5am.
October 14th: Nia slept 11 hours straight! 6pm - 5am.
October 15th: Nia slept 11.5 hours straight!!! 6:30pm-6am. She needed a quick soothe at 11:30pm, and no more complaints.
What a difference!
Next up, she'll start talking.... it's going to be interesting!
